The Bosch Benchmark Series Review
So classy, so quiet. Loaded with features. This is what sums up the Bosch Benchmark series of dishwashers.
I am sure you have been in a situation before where you paid more for a product because of it’s quality and realized that it was the correct decision. In other cases, maybe it doesn’t work out that way. What do I think of the Bosch Benchmark series – SHE89PW55N? Well, let’s just say in the years of installation and testing of these units they are pricey but well worth the money.
What’s the Difference?
These ones are a little more special than the 500 or 800 series as they are made in Germany. Adhering to exact standards, these dishwashers are that little extra special. Being extremely quiet is what this series is known for. Water softener salt is available for hard water to ensure that you won’t get any spots on your dishes if you are using hard water.
The 500 and 800 series clean just as well but if your budget allows you to get the Benchmark series then you will get your money’s worth.
A variety of different designs are available for the Benchmark series. Some will have a recessed pocket handle that looks smart, is easy to open and close and blends well with your kitchen not clashing with anything.
The control panel is top mounted and is hidden when closed. When you open the dishwasher the controls are then presented to you. On some models you’ll have an LCD panel on the front that displays the time left in the wash cycle while others will have a red LED running light that projects to the floor. You’ll need to decide which one works best for you.
Smooth gliding racks are simply fantastic as the Benchmark series has got great racks! The lower rack features folding tines with a section for the cutlery basket. This is configurable, making it either rectangular or square depending on your needs. Very convenient!
The middle rack also has folding tines and a lot of stemware holders. It’s also fully adjustable. Also known as the “MyWay Rack” – this 3rd rack is very unique. With the allowance to hold deep serving utensils and cereal bowls, there’s even more room to hold silverware.
More on the Benchmark Series
Noted for quiet operation, this series when tested only emits 39 dBA of noise. It’s so quiet you can hardly hear it running.
Another fab feature of this series is the illuminated interior. White led lights shine as you open the door displaying your dishes in a sparkling fashion after done or showing all the nastiness before the wash cycle! Either way, you’re going to have a very clear view of the state of your dishes and silverware.
Tech Support on Demand – With the push of a button, you can hit the info button which will display each function of the dishwasher. A very convenient thing to have especially if you want to do something very specific and don’t know how. No more fumbling for the owners manual!
How it Performs
When we tested this unit it perfectly cleaned our dirty dishes with ease. This was on the normal cycle. Not only is the Benchmark series an efficient cleaning machine, but it’s also water-efficient. Only 2 gallons of water was used in the normal cycle.
The speed cycle uses about 3 gallons of water and only takes about an hour and 15 minutes. It had the same results of the normal cycle but uses a bit more water. If this is of no concern to you and would like your dishes done faster, then by all means use the speed cycle as we don’t see any difference in results – both work perfectly clean.
Using the Heavy cycle you’ll be able to clean the filthiest of dishes and we recommend this cycle. We had a dish with some dried egg yolk on it that didn’t come out too well but with a little scraping before popping in the dish you should be able to not have this issue. This cycle uses the most water of course, at about 3 and a half gallons.
So, is it Worth the Extra Price Tag?
If you love features and just have to have them, then yes. However, if you just want a Bosch dishwasher that is quiet, cleans amazing and also looks great, save yourself some money and go for either the 500 series or 800 series. You’ll save a bit of coin and still have the same performance.
The choice is yours but feel free to check out the Benchmark series and make your own decision. Whichever model you decide on, I am positive you will be happy with your choice.
